Questions And Answers On How To Write A Business Plan Pdf

Susan asks…

I’m writing a Business IT book and I have several doubts, would you help me??

1.- If I’m referring to Excel in any part of the book, should I say Microsoft Excel in that sentence, or in the bottom of the page I should mention that Excel belongs to Microsoft?

2.- I’m planning to release the book thru a *.pdf file and in paper, regarding the latter when reading a Business IT book, would you feel more comfortable reading a soft cover or a hard one?

3.- Since I’m not a well globally known person like Kotler, Negroponte or Yourdon, would you consider that I’ll be to cocky, probably aggressive if by reading the book I tell you how to do things, instead of giving you suggestions?

4.- Finally, what are the pluses you’re looking for when you buy a book and you like it ( Example, some authors say that if you register at his/her website you receive free content. Or, by buying their book, you’ll receive a discount for their next seminar or book , etc. ).

I’ll appreciate all comments you can give me as well as suggestions.

admin answers:

1 Microsoft excel

2 Soft cover is cheap. Hard cover is elegant

3 Tell people how to do stuff, in a confident way.

Richard asks…

Are we Americans ever going to wake up about the middle east? And YES THIS IS a religious question.?

Declassified Senate Investigation Files Reveal Clandestine Israeli PR Campaign in America

WASHINGTON, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — Declassified files from a Senate investigation into Israeli-funded covert public relations and lobbying activity in the United States were released by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) on July 23rd, 2010. The subpoenaed documents reveal Israel’s clandestine programs for “cultivation of editors,” the “stimulation and placement of suitable articles in the major consumer magazines” as well as U.S. reporting about sensitive subjects such as the Dimona nuclear weapons facility.

Documents are now available for download from http://IRmep.org/ila/azc include:

Dimona (excerpt): “The nuclear reactor story inspired comment from many sources; editorial writers, columnists, science writers and cartoonists. Most of the press seemed finally to accept the thesis that the reactor was being built for peaceful purposes and not for bombs.” http://www.irmep.org/11-121960AZC.pdf

Content placement and promotion (excerpt): “The Atlantic Monthly in its October issue carried the outstanding Martha Gellhorn piece on the Arab refugees, which made quite an impact around the country. We arranged for the distribution of 10,000 reprints to public opinion molders in all categories… Interested friends are making arrangements with the Atlantic for another reprint of the Gellhorn article to be sent to all 53,000 persons whose names appear in Who’s Who in America…Our Committee is now planning articles for the women’s magazines for the trade and business publications.” http://www.irmep.org/09101961AZC.pdf

Pressure campaigns (excerpt): “It can be said that the press of the nation…has by and large shown sympathy and understanding of Israel’s position. There are, of course, exceptions, notably the Scripps-Howard chain where we still need to achieve a ‘break-through,’ the Pulliam chain (where some progress has been made) and some locally-owned papers.” http://www.irmep.org/11-121960AZC.pdf

Magazine Committee achievements (excerpt): “We cannot pinpoint all that has already been accomplished by this Committee except to say that it has been responsible for the writing and placement of articles on Israel in some of America’s leading magazines….” http://www.IRmep.org/10301962_AZC.pdf

According to Grant F. Smith, director of IRmep, “It is frightening how easily some in the American news media surrendered to a foreign public relations campaign that spent the 2010 equivalent of $36 million over two years. Time has proven most of the planted content to be misleading, if not dangerous. These historical documents hold many important lessons for Americans who have long needed—but rarely received—straight reporting on key Middle East issues.”

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the nation’s record keeper. It retains 1%-3% of the most important documents of business conducted by the United States Federal government. The Israel Lobby Archive, http://IRmep.org/ila is a unit of the Institute for Research: Middle Eastern Policy in Washington.

admin answers:

If you gathered all the statistics and all the organizations having to do with Middle Eastern-American-Israeli policies, you would still find that all of the interactions are much more complex and complicated than most people could understand. What we wake up to today is very different than what we will wake up to tomorrow. And no one really knows where today’s policies will lead us. All we can do is try, and that is through good ambassadors, wise decision making, minimal press leaks, and making ourselves aware of the Middle Eastern culture individually. If we can do this, we have a chance for real peace. Without it, we will not.

Does this help with the demand question? i really dont understand any of it..?

Polynomials

Polynomials can be used for many different real-world applications. The problems shown below are only some of the possible applications.

Application Practice

Answer the following questions.

1.In this problem, we analyze the profit found for sales of graphic t-shirts. A demand equation (sometimes called a demand curve) shows how much money people would pay for a product depending on how much of that product is available on the open market. Often, the demand equation is found empirically (through experiment, or market research).

a.Suppose a market research company finds that at a price of p = $25, they would sell x = 60 shirts each month. If they lower the price to p = $15, then more people would purchase the shirts, and they can expect to sell x = 75 shirts in a month’s time. Find the equation of the line for the demand equation. Write your answer in the form p = mx + b. Hint: Write an equation using two points in the form (x, p). Show all your work.

A company’s revenue is the amount of money that comes in from sales, before business costs are subtracted. For a single product, you can find the revenue by multiplying the quantity of the product sold, x, by the demand equation, p.

b.Substitute the result you found from part a. into the equation R = xp to find the revenue equation. Provide your answer in simplified form. Show all your work.

The costs of doing business for a company can be found by adding fixed costs, such as rent, insurance, and wages, and variable costs, which are the costs to purchase the product you are selling. The portion of the company’s fixed costs allotted to this product is $600, and the supplier’s cost for a shirt is $18 each. Let x represent the number of shirts.

c.If b represents a fixed cost, what value would represent b? Show all your work.

d.Find the cost equation for the shirt. Write your answer in the form C = mx + b. Show all your work.

The profit made from the sale of shirts is found by subtracting the costs from the revenue.

e.Find the Profit Equation by substituting your equations for R and C in the equation . Simplify the equation. Show all your work.

f.What is the profit made from selling 33 shirts per month? Show all your work.

g.What is the profit made from selling 27 shirts each month? Show all your work.

h.What is the profit made from selling no shirts each month? Interpret your answer. Show all your work.

i.Use trial and error to find the quantity of shirts per month that yields the highest profit. Show all your work.

j.How much profit would you earn from the number you found in part i? Show all your work.

k.What price would you sell the shirts at to realize this profit? Hint: Use the demand equation from part a. Show all your work.

2.The break even values for a profit model are the values for which you earn $0 in profit. Use the equation you created in question one to solve P = 0, and find your break even values. Show all your work.

3.In 2007, Walmart’s sales were reported at $115,140,000,000 as of August of that year. In 2008, its sales were reported at $123,222,000,000.

a.Write Walmart’s 2007 sales and 2008 sales in scientific notation. Show all your work.

You can find the percent of growth in Walmart’s sales from 2007 to 2008 by following these steps:

•Find the increase in sales from 2007 to 2008.
•Find what percent that increase is of the 2007 sales.

b.What was the percent growth in Walmart’s sales from 2007 to 2008? Do all your work by using scientific notation. Show all your work.

Working Part-Time in High school help Teenage
Many students questioned themselves whether is easy to work while going to school or not? The pros and cons discussed and presented by Amitai Etzioni “The Fast Food Factories: Mcjobs Are Bad for Kids” and Michele Mangers “The Dead-End Kids” has a lengthy works that have much to say about the use and abuse of teenagers who are undertaking and working at franchises such as McDonalds and other fast food industries. They stated that those works does not give teens skills nor does it teach them about the work experience that needed for the real world. However, Dennis McLellan’s “Part-Time Work Ethic: Should Teens Go for It?” and Maureen Brown’s “Balancing Act: High School Students Making the Grade at Part-Time Jobs” disagree with them. McLellan and Brown state that part-time work has a positive influence on youth because it will benefit them as they grown up. All four article were well-thought written and all has a strong message for teens but I have to agree more with McLellan’s and Brown’s, because I believe any such experience does assist a student in their traumatic entry, out of a protective institution of school and into the real harsh business world. Therefore, I think it’s great that high school teens should work a part-time job because it’s going to prepare them for the real world by becoming more independent, learn skills need for the adulthood, and stay out of trouble.
Part time jobs help student to become more independent. A lot of us students wanted to grow up and take care of our own self. We don’t want to relay upon our parents to support us for the rest of our lives. So we sought to find a job at a very young age to get the idea of how to be an adult. As I was growing up, I never ask my parents to buy me something because I knew that money wasn’t easy to make. I knew that they have to work a menial job to support us and pay the house bills and mortgages. For that reason, I couldn’t go and ask my parents for money because it didn’t seem right. Then I decided to work and earn my own money and contribute to them with a little support and save up money for the car that I was planning on buying. After two years of working at my school bus office doing paper work, computer data, and organizing. I manage to save up money, help my parents and also bought my own car. I felt so happy and proud of myself, for not only did I get a car but I had worked and earned that car all by myself. Now I didn’t have to kiss up to my friends and parents for help anymore because I’m an independent. In addition to (authors name and page)…..
Part-time jobs help students learn skills that are needed for adulthood. My experience of working for the school bus was a great asset to me. However, I want to learn more skills by working in the field of adult. I want to find out what adult work is like and more importantly how do they interact and handle taught situation. I wanted to learn how to be confidence with other people and overcome my fear of working with different people that are sometimes rude, angry and unpleasant. I also want to learn more about different careers and how to put up information on my resume. More importantly I want to overcome my shyness and learn how to communicate more often. Communication is more important when it comes to dealing with people and work environment. It can also help to develop more skills and be flexible. In addition to Brown’s, Michelle Gust, 17 years old, a senior at Mt. Carmel High, stated that “Working has taught me the importance of communicating with people,” Micelle say that “The management wants you to communicate with management and the customer. “I have learned to be flexible.” She learned how to meet her college application deadline, and balance both her school work and her part time job (Brown 303)
Part time job also helps students to stay out of trouble. In the beginning of my senior year I was doing great in all of my classes than suddenly something change about me. I pick up a bad habit of goofing around chasing after girls, not paying attention to my school. As result I almost fail all of my senior classes. I knew I was going in the wrong direction and also losing my reputation as an honour-role student. Eventually, my counselor Ms. Helen found a solution for me. She advises me to get a job after school to keep me out of trouble.

admin answers:

First, I hope you correct many of the grammatical errors in this essay. Even your title has multiple errors (Probably should read “Working Part-Time in High School Helps Teenagers”).

As for the content, I think you didn’t correctly use the first two references you cite (by the way, I couldn’t even find your second reference . . . You may want to check it). They are not claiming that part-time work for teenagers is necessarily bad. And you do correctly state that they claim that McDonalds and other fast-food restaurants do not make good part-time jobs because they teach no job skills useful in adulthood other than getting to work on time. But that view does not contradict your latter references, nor the rest of your essay. Your personal example of the benefits of part-time work at your school bus office would not necessarily have been criticized by your first references.

To contradict those authors, you might emphasize the benefits that a McJob does offer. Learning to get to work on-time really is a skill worth learning. Self-reliance and earning your own spending money (and learning to live within your means) are also good skills. And while it’s rigid and inflexible, it does teach respect for authority (you may get away with backtalking to a teacher, but do that to your boss and you’re fired!).

Plus, while the experience of a McJob may more closely compare to the rigid monotony of a factory job, it may very well teach kids what they DON’T want in life. By this, I mean that if your lack of effort in school is putting you on a life path of factory work, it could be that a taste of unsatisfying work might provide the incentive to work harder to make more of your life. This final point is related to your final paragraph about a job — any job — keeping you off the street and out of trouble.

Now, you refer to many of these benefits in you middle paragraphs. But you don’t argue against the worthlessness of McJobs. If that is a point you were trying to make, I would recommend going the added step and stating that even McJobs offer some of these benefits and explain why.

Questions And Answers On Revenue Canada Business Account

Paul asks…

Can revenue Canada seize my bank account for my husbands debt?

I moved to Canad from the states back in October 2009. I opened a bank account completely separate from my husband. He owes about $25,000 in taxes to Revenue Canada. He was making payments until last summer when he lost his job. Since he couldn’t find work, he was living off his credit cards. Revenue Canada contacted him when he stopped making payments and he let them know about the situation. They sent him some paperwork he filled out and out of good faith he made a $100 payment and told them he would pay more when he could. When I moved here we didn’t think I would have any problems finding work, but even after almost 6 months I was only able to get a month seasonal job during Christmas, otherwise no one will even give me an interview. In the meantime my husband has started a small business that just barely covers our monthly living expenses (this was back in December). At the same time he received a letter from Revenue Canada stating if he didn’t fill out this form that authorized them to pry into every nook and cranny of our lives for the past 10 years, they would proceed with legal action. Since it was Christmas we couldn’t get an appointment to see an attorney to find out what our options were so he sent a letter to Revenue Canada asking them for an additional 30 days to consult a lawyer and he would get back to them. After talking to the lawyer, my husband make several attempts to contact Revenue Canada. never hearing back or being able to get a hold of the person he was dealing with. Before we knew it, they seized his bank account and took what little money that was in it. Miraculously when he called Revenue Canada to find out what happened he got a hold of the guy and he told him basically any money that goes in Revenue Canada will take and they were proceeding with legal actions. When he told him he kept trying to get in contact with him, the guy played dumb like he never got any of his messages. So my questions are 1) what are our options? We can negotiate a payment plan but there is no way we can pay off all the debt in 2 years like they want especially since I can’t get anyone to hire me. and 2) can revenue Canada seize my bank accounts as well even though it is solely my account and not a joint account?

Thanks ahead of time!

If your name was on those tax returns then yes. If you did not file joint then no

Shelley asks…

How to register a business for online cellphone store in ontario, toronto?

I have found a supplier for electronics products like cellphones and other electronic products. They are legit US registered company and i have also tested them with small orders. I want to open an online retail store, sell on ebay and also sell in wholesale to other buyers. I only want to operate my business via online. Every month I have to wiretransfer large amounts like USD$50,000 to US for my business. Am I allowed to wire transfer money to US w/o any problem. Can i send money from my personal account or would i need a business account. Do I have to notify Revenue Canada before i do the wire transfer. Would they check the money going to US. I have heard when you T/T over $8000US then only they check.

what licences do i need to start this business, who do i have to contact and do i really have to charge sales tax to my customers. I dont want to charge any GST or PST or any other sales tax to my customers. I want to keep my prices low to attract more buyers. Please advice

admin answers:

Go to the Revenue Canada website for details.

Richard asks…

I think Canada Revenue made a mistake? GST/HST Account question?

When I did my taxes, it said I’d get $990.06 back. I got $817.11 back with an explanation that the remaining $172.95 was taken and applied to a balance I owe on my GST/HST credit account. Isn’t that something that businesses have? I don’t own a business, so what are they talking about? Is it possible they made a mistake? I don’t owe anyone anything and the only government related bill I have is for BC Medical Services, which I pay on time every month…I’m confused!

admin answers:

It’s possible they made a mistake, but it’s very unlikely.

The GST/HST credit is a payment that low income Canadians received every quarter. Just check the questions in this category to see how important it is to people.

CRA are saying they sent you GST credit payments, but they overpaid you sometime in the past (likely because you were reassessed one year with additional income).

You can ask them for a statement to verify their calculations, but my bet is they’re correct.

Joseph asks…

Can Revenue Canada count a person who rents a room in a house and the owner of the house as common-law?

Well odd story that came to me from a good friend of mine and I wanna know if this is possible and how I can help out the people who are in this situation at the present moment.

So basically there are 2 individuals Y (female) and X (male). This two individuals are not married, not common-law and are not boyfriend/girlfriend type of relation.

Now person X rents a room in persons Y house. However person X also has a join-account in the bank with person Y. This is due to the reason that they have a business and are business partners so they are running a partnership type of business.

What ended up happening is the following, upon tax submission somehow the people at Revenue Canada marked both of this individuals as common-law marriage type of relation.

Now person Y received a letter from Revenue Canada requesting over $10,000 back in taxes as well as she now has to pay back Revenue all the child benefits cheques that she receives.

From what I read on Revenue Canada site commons-law marriage is if they are boyfriend and/or girlfriend living together for more then 12 months, but in this case its not that its more of landlord/renter and then just partner in business. However taxes for business have to be separate from personal taxes.

Is there any Ontario and or Canada bound laws that Revenue Agent has violated by putting the two people together as commons-law while this may not be the case in reality. Or is this legal? And if was done by a human error what to do to resolve this issue with RCA?
* sorry thats CRA

admin answers:

One can definitely understand why they would perceive this as a likely case of people living common law. Nothing illegal about them assessing such a couple on that basis, but if there’s no conjugal relationship, then the assessment could be reviewed and/or appealed.

Helena asks…

Do I have to register a business under my name to BUY/SELL online?

I will be transfering amounts of US$20,000 every month to my supplier, Can I do this w/o having a company registered under my name. Am I allowed to wire money every week to US account with the intention of showing my profit during tax time. What i want to know is if I am allowed to send and receive money from different parts of the world eventough I dont have a business setup. I do want to show my earnings during tax time and i dont mind paying taxes. Thats why i am concerned and want to do this the proper legit way

I have found a supplier and want to sell on ebay and also want to sell in wholesale. My supplier will dropship the items for me. But every now and then I would be making a wiretransfer of USD$10,000 to their bank account in US for my dropship business. Am I allowed to wire transfer money to US w/o any problem. DO i have to notify Revenue Canada before i do the wire transfer. Would they check the money going to US. I have heard when you TT over $8000US then only theycheck

admin answers:

Well, the name you use to make purchases and settle transactions should be you or your business. It doesn’t really matter what you call yourself to the customer so long as you are accessible. The point is, if you are liable for sales taxes or anything like that, it will have to be in a valid name with a tax ID number.

Questions And Answers On Doing Business In Canada

Joseph asks…

What forms do I need for income tax if I am an Independent Consultant in a direct sales business? CANADA TAX!

I work casually as an Independent Consultant in the direct sales business ( avon, toys, etc, that kind of thing). How do I claim my income on my income taxes? Is there a certain form I have to fill out with a ton of info, or can I basically say, here is my net result after all my expenses are calculated into the mix? Canadian tax info only please!

admin answers:

If you have a profit and loss statement its going to be a big help. Plus you’ll need a listing of all of your categorized expenses (ie phone, parking, cost of goods sold) you then go through line 135-142 of your return and lines 162-170 of your T1 return.

I usually maintain around an 86% average but my math is in the 90s and science mid to high 80s. It’s english which is usually a bit lower (80ish) and the business classes are mid to high 90s. My question is what good universities do I have a good chance at? Western? Queens? McMaster? York?

Also, I do plan of getting an MBA after too if that helps?

With those marks i think you should be able to get into every university. Have you looked at Wilfred Laurier or perhaps the business and math double degree at Waterloo? Since you said you have good math marks.

Doing Business in Canada as a USA Citizen?

I have a business registered in the USA and am a USA Citizen.

I now live in Canada with Permanent residence status. Am I allowed to register another business in Canada so I can do business in both places?

Also, what are the Tax Implications.

admin answers:

If you are a PR. In Canada you have no problem to register as many businesses as you wish, if you have it already registered in the USA and looking to register same business here in Canada I would register it as a franchise and you will also need an imp/exp license depending on the kind of business you are registering .

A funny thing happens when the economy quivers, consumer spending falls and uncertainty looms — otherwise-healthy businesses develop tunnel vision, cut marketing budgets, and do nothing to communicate why their brand matters at a time when the marketplace is looking for certainty and safety.

For companies with courage and capability, these can be times of unrivalled market opportunity. History has shown leaders can turn economic downturns and crises into leadership moments that catapult a brand ahead of its competition. For example, for financial services companies, given the worldwide recognition of Canadian excellence in the sector during the downturn, this is the ideal time to actively play the “Canada card” in brand building efforts.

In this article, you’ll learn about:

  • What is your brand

Currently, I have not yet incorporated my business. I plan to though. I have a chance right now to get some of the machines for my company at a lower than usual cost so if I bought them now, can I claim my business expenses on the business income tax on items I bought before incorporation, after I incorporate? Or do I have to buy them while I’m incorporated in order to make this claim?

admin answers:

Speak to the lawyer that you will be hiring to handle your incorporation as to all of your taxation concerns.

If you are planning on incorporating without a lawyer, please don’t. Incorporation has rules and regulations that most people don’t understand, or even try to. It’s worth the $.

Please recommend me a good Business Plan writing “guide” ….?

Hi,

I’m looking for a book that will assist me “along the way” to writing a a business plan, pretty much a guide that will get me to write in the right details and ask the right questions.

Thank you.

P.s I am NOT a fan of those “Dummy” or “Idiot” books.
and if it makes “any” difference on literature, I would like one that has some knowledge of canadian business and tax structures. (I’m located in Canada)

Thank you once again!

admin answers:

There are a number of resources online that can provide steps or templates to writing your business plan. It would help to know what type of business you are starting. A good starting point is the US Small Business Administration website at http://www.sba.gov .

There is also some information available on about.com Canada on starting a small business (see link below). And there is useful info and links to business plan guides/templates at http://www.software-marketing-advisor.com/business-plan.html

Is there a difference between Canadian Business and American Business in University?

I’m planning on going to NYU Stern (Business School). However, I wanted to keep my options open and was wondering if there was any difference in the curriculum between Canadian business schools and American business schools?

admin answers:

There is a dig difference in programs between Stern and Columbia. Let alone to Canada.

Canadian schools teach about different lows and rules. Most is the same but it seems US schools turn out a greater proportion of amoral sharks.

why do you need planning permission in your own land?

for example, I want to create a barn conversion (convert it into a holiday home), and widen the road for cars to get in,(which cost over 6000GBP including and 800GBP bat survey which found 0 bats… we also thought in the past of creating a small campsite and bring back our tea room which we had in the past… but we needed planning permission and licenses …
the Welsh government always talk about tourism in Wales, but it seems like they are against people who want to create a business by bringing tourists in…

why do we need permission from people who don’t even live on our land or near the area?
and why does it cost so much for a person from some office just to come up and give us permission?

admin answers:

Reasons like health and safety the environment and wildlife…yea i know it sucks especially the costs!! Sadly there is nothing we can do about that, just everyone is trying to get on top of you pinching every money they can get because they know you need them to follow your dreams and create something like that….don’t give up tho….:)

i’m thinkin about opening a small business?

and its for serious too. ok look: i detail/customize my own jeans-shirts-hats-shoes-denim jackets, and i‘ve done it for other people besides myself. i dont make the clothing and shoes, etc, but take whatever it is and do a custom design/and or detailing on them. i get compliments on all my stuff, so i figured why not give it a shot and get paid for doing it. so i guess i need a business license? i have no clue where to get one in person. and i wont be doing anything major, just at home, like in the garage. does anybody have any experience with this so you can give good advice to get me started. and i will be working alone. no employees other than myself. thanx

admin answers:

Hi, I think you need a lawyer who can register a small company for you, and he can give you an advice what is the most suitable form of company to register according to the specific business you are about to run.
I have friends who are owners of small business and all of them say it is a lot of bureaucracy when starting a business.
It is a good idea to sell your stuff online, ebay or similar sites. Or you can start your own online shop.

How do I start my own Dog Training and Dog Walking Business?

I am 19 years old. I know what I am best at and that is dog training and walking. I already have 3 references for dog training. and 2 for dog walking. I have been trying to get hired by companies but nobody is hiring me.

So I think I must start a business of my own. What steps should I take to do this? Do I need a business license for this? If so, how hard is it to get one? Does it cost money? (cause I don’t have any money because I have never been hired.)

I am just so sick of not being able to do anything about not being employed. I can’t even get government aid of any kind to help me out till I can get a job. Like I don’t even own a bra I am so poor. I have no presentable clothing…might be why I am not getting hired- but I don’t have any money for anything.

admin answers:

According to our state, dog trainer is already included as a legal occupation. Since, it is recognized by the law then the person must have licensed on it. You have to spend some time in the training school to get a professional certificate. In that way, any person or company who will hire you will not be doubtful in giving you the job you deserve because you are now a certified dog training professional. Hope this helps!

What should I do??? I have tried to do background checks…not really finding anything….Can you advise me?? Thank you in advance for any information you can advise me with….and “Happy Holidays”.

admin answers:

Never be a part of anything if you are not sure of who they are. History told us it would be too late if you jump in too fast.

You can charge them a consulting fee, either by project or by hour to do the work they ask you to. Have a clearly defined contract on what to deliver to collect money. Never be vague otherwise you will not be able to collect. It is easier to say no than to lose money.

Shelley asks…

Do I qualify for a small business loan?

I need a relatively small business loan, (40K) to cover intial operating expenses for my seed-stage business.

Here’s what I do have:

Over 10 years hands-on experience in my field, extensive business / marketing “knowledge”, intelligence, passion and enthusiasm, a solid business plan and statistics / research for the past 2 years proving how and why my business will be successful.

However, I lack formal education, management experience and experience running my own business. In addition, I have a horrible credit rating, about 15K in personal debt and no collaterral.

We’ve all heard that investments are made to the people, not the business. On paper, I as a person look like a big risk, but my business is a million dollar idea. (I know that’s what everyone says, but my pro-forma income projections have me generating roughly 5 million dollars profit annually in just 3 years…and those are very feasible estimations) I have done extensive reading and learning about effective business operation and how to be successful, but don’t have a piece of paper from a University or College. (I’ve never let my education interfere with my schooling as Twain said)

I’m quite confident that a bank would laugh me right out of their office, but would a private investor or other organizations be able to “see the forest through the trees” so to speak or would the focus be on my credit, lack of formal education etc.?

The only thing I’m not interested in is any venture capital firms. Sure they would help me now, but in three years they’d be helping themselves to my profits…but any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am located in Canada, so anyone with a Canadian perspective or resource would be beneficial, but will take input from anyone in the world that can provide some insight.

admin answers:

In all liklihood this is too early for bank loan. You need other types of investments in the initial stages of a new company. Once you have some recurring sales you can use bank debt to pay off early investors.

What is better for a small business a S corp o a LLC?

I have a DBA and I’m planing to change to a S corporation o a LLC the company is a small plumbing operation, with only one employee for know, but the plan is to grow it, and create credit for the business, with entity will be the best to chose

admin answers:

IMHO, an S-Corp.

An S-Corp is an IRS designation for a small corporation that meets their requirements for an S-Corp. The corporation itself is not taxed by the federal government. The Employees pay regular taxes on their wages, and shareholders pay taxes on their dividends. This eliminates double taxation.

Bob asks…

Business license cost for a small service operation in Missouri?

Trying to sort it all out and you know how it is with the bureaucracy/IRS nonsense so if someone knows the answer, or even a possible answer or clue in the right direction, then that would be great for me. I’ve heard I may be able to get away from it for a while, since the business is small and I only expect to make a couple hundred dollars extra a week, but it may grow larger and I want to be well informed and prepared if it does. It’s a laundry service and I plan on drastically outcompeting other laundry businesses in the area basically by doing the work myself and not having “excessive expenses” like additional labor and what not.

10 pts. best answer thanks

admin answers:

I live in Kansas and they are about the same. If you do not have employees this pertains:
IRS does not require you to have a license or permit, just a tax number (this will be your social security number for now). Same with the state. Your city may require one, but so does mine and i never got one in 25 years of doing business. Once you have employees, you will need unemployment insurance and workman’s compensation insurance. . If yo live in a large town you should have an state employment office and they can help with that when the time comes. They won’t care if you have a business permit as long as you pay your unemployment taxes.

admin answers:

When I was only 21, much to young to start my own business, I was held under gunpoint by some mobster alpacas. Ever since then, starting my own business has been a life long dream. I am not 34 and I have an extremely profitable hockey puck manufacturing company.

At first, I suffered from some severe mental problems, but Dr. Spaceman help me through them. Thanks Doc! I continue to suffer from my alcohol addictions but we are working right through those as well.

Hmmm…daily business. Well every morning I am expected to rise out of bed before 11 o’clock. I never seem to wake up by then and my alpaca must have eaten my alarm clock. I suppose everyone suffers from this, however the problem is enhanced with my reoccurring, raging hangovers.

I work alone, in the dead of night in my “hockey puck” lab in my basement. Oh, and there is also my alpaca friends who test my products. These alpacas are very demanding and I find that their paycheck is often higher than mine.

I had no business plan whatsoever. I guess thats just the Hornburger way!

My only suggestion is that make sure you have one or more off-shore bank accounts!

Small businesses definitely have advantages, such as working your own hours, and scheduling your own “vacations.”

Why in the world would I want to advertise this? Everyone knows where the best hockey pucks are sold!

Hope this helped! But please note that this is entirely made up and not meant to be offensive in any way! ALL RIGHTS RESERVED :D

admin answers:

The first thing I would look at is investment and capital requirements for the business.

Your plan would be a start up plan as you are not an existing business, determine what is most important in your plan.
Form follows function, make the contents of your plan match your purpose and adjust the outline to match your plan.

You will need to have an investors summaries and loan application, when a plan is used to back up a loan application or explain an opportunity to potential investors, it may require a special summary document as well as the complete plan.
Many investors like to see a brief summary, and loan applications do not always require a complete plan.

Time frames, is three years enough? Your plan should project sales by month for the next 12 months, and annual sales for the following two years.

Tips opening your own business.?

I want to open a deli/sandwich/bakery shop here in my city. I don’t want to buy a franchise, I want to open an original shop. Any ideas or sites on how to get started. Fortunately I’m an accounting major in college, so I can handle my own books but I have no idea where to get started. Like writing a business plan, and if there are any community agencies or federal agencies that help with small business loans or grants. Thanks for the help!!

admin answers:

Opening your own business is a daunting experience, not to be taken lightly. Since I’ve participated in 5 startups (3 my own), I do have some advice for you:

- http://www.sba.gov/smallbusinessplanner/index.html. No, don’t laugh. You need to start with baby steps, and the SBA has some good advice. I always go back to this every so often.

- Can’t stress enough to find a mentor early on. Someone in the restaurant or franchise business that knows the ins and outs.

- Make sure you have some funding and friends/family funds to help you out, before you go for a loan.

- VISION. You need a vision, and you need to believe it with fanatical zeal. If you don’t believe, how can someone else?

- Lastly, opening a new business IS HARD WORK. If you are unafraid of REAL challenges, sometimes on an everyday basis, then it is for you. If you are not willing to lose everything, then perhaps you may want to wait a little.

Best of Luck

$80,000 loan from family $38,250 small business loan from bank All loans to be repaid in 10 years?

Starting a Business

Starting your own business can be exciting and daunting at the same time. Businesses use math when managing finances, determining production levels, designing products and packaging, and monitoring labor. A bakery can be a highly profitable and rewarding business. During this activity, you will apply the skills from Ch. 1 & 2 to navigate some of the issues facing bakery owners.

Application Practice

Answer the following questions. Use Equation Editor when writing mathematical expressions or equations. First, save this file to your hard drive by selecting Save As from the File menu. Click the white space below each question to maintain proper formatting.

1.You have recently found a location for your bakery and have begun implementing the first phases of your business plan. Your budget consists of an $80,000 loan from your family and a $38,250 small business loan. These loans must be repaid in full within 10 years.
a.What integer would represent your total budget?

b.You will use 25% of your budget to rent business space and pay for utilities. Write an algebraic expression that indicates how much money will be spent on business space and utilities. Do not solve.

c.How much money will rent and utilities cost? Explain how you arrived at this answer.

d.Imagine an investor has increased your budget by $22,250. The investor does not need to be repaid. Rather, he becomes part owner of your business. Will the investor contribute enough money to meet the cost of rent and utilities? Support your answer and write an equation or inequality that illustrates your answer.

e.This equation illustrates your remaining funds after paying for rent and utilities. How much money is left? Explain how you arrived at your answer.
